Pristine Waterfront

ColdWater enjoys expansive views of the lake from many perspectives. Perched above the lake on the wide ridge of ColdWater Pointe, panoramic views extend north, west, and south across the lake. Despite the near convenience of Highway 158, we enjoy a particularly quiet and undisturbed natural shoreline to the north and to the west with only a few homes across the cove to the south. The natural coves surrounding us abound with dozens of native species of fish and birds, and you can often catch a glimpse of our great blue herons fishing along the shore or hear the soft warble of peaceful loons as the sun sets behind the trees.

Three Nature Preserves

ColdWater is nestled among gently rolling hills and is quietly sequestered away from Coldwater Road by over 13 acres of nature preserve. Box Turtle Nature Preserve and Wild Muscadine Nature Preserve together feature hundred-year old sycamore trees and majestic birches sheltering a natural perennial creek as well as mature hardwood woodlands and open fields. Box Turtle Nature Preserve features our longest natural trail, ColdWater Springs Loop, and protects hundreds of our native box turtles as well as natural forest, field, and creek life. Wild Muscadine Nature Preserve boasts thriving native muscadine vines that ramble along the creek and hang from the trees with heavy clusters of grapes in the late summer. Finally, a little gem of a nature preserve along the shoreline, Brightwater Cove Preserve, boasts an untouched hardwood forest with perfect sunset views of Brightwater Cove, while providing paddleboard and kayak access for all our residents. There are endless opportunities for exploration!

Greenway & Trails

ColdWater homeowners enjoy exclusive use of our beautiful Greenway as well as a variety of trails connecting our various nature preserves and natural features. The Greenway is a wide, smooth path bordered by canopy trees and adjoining a natural woodland area belonging to Duke Energy. Connecting to Boathouse Way on both ends, the Greenway provides a lovely 1/2 mile wooded walk and access to Brightwater Cove Preserve. The other two nature preserves, both Box Turtle Preserve and Wild Muscadine Preserve, may be explored by way of ColdWater Springs Creek Loop, a delightful trail that meanders along our largest creek, through a young wooded area bursting with native fern species, and then along a magnificent border of white oaks. Finally, if you are in the mood to rejuvenate your soul by indulging yourself with a magical expanse of lake views (or if you just want to fish), hop on Sunfish Trail at ColdWater Pointe and explore the long, wide, grassy natural pier off the point. Altogether, the network of Greenway and trails, connected by the neighborhood roads, offer miles of exploration and discovery in woodland, creek, field, and lake settings.
